- The octave and note of each string you need
- Whether you need gut, nylon or wire strings, if you know

When to restring
Strings wear over time, even when they don’t break. If a string sounds dull, buzzes, won’t hold its tuning or looks frayed, it is probably time to replace it. Many harpists keep a few spares of the most commonly broken strings on hand.
