Avondale Harp Enterprises (“Avondale Harps”, “we”, “us”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect through harps.co.za, why we collect it, how we look after it and what your rights are under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

Our Information Officer is responsible for overseeing our compliance with applicable data protection laws. For privacy-related enquiries or requests, please contact us at harpist@harps.co.za or 082 494 1538.

2. What information we collect

  • Information you give us: your name, email address, phone number and the content of your message when you use our contact form, email or phone us, or enquire about harps, rentals, strings, sheet music, servicing or tuition.
  • Newsletter sign-ups: your email address if you choose to sign up for updates.
  • Customer and student information: details needed to arrange a purchase, rental, service or lessons, such as your address for delivery. For students under 18, we deal with a parent or guardian.
  • Website usage information: basic technical information such as your browser type, device and pages visited, collected through cookies and similar tools.

3. Why we use your information

  • To reply to your enquiries and provide quotations
  • To arrange sales, rentals, deliveries, servicing and tuition, including putting you in touch with a teacher in your area
  • To send you news and updates, only if you have signed up for them
  • To keep our website working properly and secure, and to understand how it is used
  • To meet our legal and tax obligations

We only collect what we need for these purposes, and we never sell your personal information.

4. Who we share it with

We share personal information only when necessary, for example with:

  • A harp teacher in your area, if you ask us to connect you for tuition
  • Couriers, freight agents and customs clearing agents, to deliver or import your order
  • Service providers who help us run our website and email (such as our web host and email newsletter service)
  • Authorities, where the law requires it

Some of these providers may store information outside South Africa. Where this happens, we only use providers that protect personal information to a standard comparable to POPIA.

5. Cookies

Our website uses cookies to work properly, remember your preferences and help us understand how visitors use the site. Our map uses Google Maps, which may set its own cookies. You can manage or block cookies in your browser settings, but some parts of the site may not work as well without them.

6. How long we keep it

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes above, or as long as the law requires (for example, financial records for tax purposes). Enquiries that do not lead to a sale or lessons are deleted when no longer needed.

7. Keeping it safe

We take reasonable steps to protect your information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access, including using a secure (HTTPS) website. No method of sending information over the internet is completely secure, but we do our best to protect it.

8. Your rights

Under POPIA you have the right to:

  • Ask what personal information we hold about you and request a copy
  • Ask us to correct or delete your information
  • Object to us using your information, including for marketing
  • Unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time, using the link in any email
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za

To make a request, email us at harpist@harps.co.za.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated.
